Notepad++ is a programmers editor type free-open-source software under the GPL. It is suitable for programmers who choose to burst-coding, ie coding faster by typing hand. This is because its features are very minimalis.Notepad++ in my opinion is the best open-source IDE for Windows that can compete with Textmate (MacOS).
Why Choose Notepad++?
Because not been able to purchase a license for such paid IDE: Macromedia Dreamweaver (Windows),
Coda (MacOS), Textmate (MacOS), or Webstrom IDE (all OS platforms),
Notepad++ is the best choice. The fundamental difference between paid
software and not usually located on the many features provided to
facilitate the programmer, for example: Intelegent editor, phpdoc,
Smarty Templates, refactoring abilities, to Unit Testing (Features
Webstrom).
Impression Using Notepad++
I like the web programming, so I usually use Notepad++ is to edit the file type HTML, XML, PHP, MySQL, javascript, and CSS. Syntax highlighter is also quite qualified to do professional web system that I’m doing now.
For customization, you can also select
several style-theme for visual adjustments when coding [Settings>
Configuration Style]. I prefer a darker color in the background when
coding (Obsidian theme) so that the eyes do not get tired quickly.
Until recently, I rarely find a problem
when coding with Notepad++ this. Features indentnya even I like. Only
by blocking the source code and press TAB, the entire source code in
the block will be indented properly (I used to think it will actually
delete source code, hehe). To indent back, just press Shift + TAB.
To further facilitate navigation, we
recommend you install Explorer extension in plugin manager. Because at
first install, explorer feature in Notepad++ does not exist.

To view the source code, in general, programers need more height space than width space. The vertical file swicher might be a remedy of the mainstream widescreen monitor. User can hide the tabs and manage the file swicher as sidebar. All of these are configurable in the preferences dialog (in General tab).
The Recent File List can be set in a submenu in this version and it is totally customizable. You can define your preference in Preference Dialog, under "New Document / Default Directory" tab.
